The subject matter at hand is, of course, Physics; but the goal of the class is also to give a scientific approach to the students. We shall learn to use the scientific method in a "learn as you do" methodology and we will use available software and equipment for real and virtual laboratories. The first lab will be introductory and fairly simple and later evaluation will slowly become more complicated and demanding but always with the appropriate guidance.

In the broadest way to say is "the general analysis of nature, conducted in order to understand how the universe behaves" (taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physics). For the high school student, physics and mathematics may look a lot alike but they are in essence very different. Math is a formal science and deals with abstract objects and patterns while physics is a natural science and concerns itself with studying reality.

Notebook and Homework Policies:

  • A notebook is required for class notes and homework. Every time you come to class you are to label the top of your notebook page with the date, textbook page, and the topic in discussion.
  • Homework should include comlplete name, subject, date and textbook page.
  • When required, show the procedure for your homework or test problems. Remember, no procedure, no credit.
  • If you lose your notebook, replace it as soon as possible and notify your teacher immediately.
  • Homework has to be done on separate sheets of paper. Homework or classwork done in a different notebook will NOT be accepted.
  • Homework will be assigned regularly, almost on a daily basis.
  • Homework will be checked at the beginning of the class period; I will either sign it or stamp it.
  • According to school’s policy, any assignment not turned in because of excused absences should be made up and presented to the teacher. You are responsible to turn in your work to me when absen, at the most, two days after the absence.
  • The notebook will be checked two times each partial: before midterms and before partial tests. No homework without my signature or stamp on it will be included in the grading.

On-Task Behavior:

  • On-task behavior in class will include completing assigned classwork and bringing in required materials and homework.
  • On-task behavior includes behaving appropriately during class, being punctual and participative.
  • On-task behavior will be recorded on a daily basis.
  • Not complying will result in an improper behavior entry in the discipline chart.

Test and Quiz Policies:test.gif
  • Formal assessments will be applied on a weekly basis. Unannounced pop quizzes will also be given to students, with the purpose of checking progress and motivating daily practice.
  • During examinations, no talking, exchange of materials, or having access to an electronic device will be allowed. This is considered cheating.
  • Honesty is expected when taking tests. Cheating will be punished according to school policies.
  • Not complying will result in an improper behavior entry in the discipline chart.
  • Make up assessments will be given on a specific day and time. Failing to comply will result in a 0%. It’s the student’s responsibility to request the day and time of the test.
  • Only medical excuses will be accepted when missing a test.

Projects will be assigned each quarter.
  • Students have to bring all the materials requested. Not bringing the material will result in an unprepared entry in the discipline chart, and no grading will be given for projects that are not worked in class.
  • The evaluation standards for each project will vary, and it will be given with anticipation by the teacher.
